On November 19th, recipients of the 2007-2008 United Way Community Service Award attended a reception that was held in their honour. Approximately 80 people – the recipients’ family and friends – joined in celebrating the young volunteers.
The evening at the Norwood Hotel was hosted by members of the Youth Relations Council. Several members of the YRC have received the award themselves in the past. While the guests enjoyed coffee, punch and desert, Cie Kay Lam charmed the room with some great piano music. Recipients’ volunteer contributions were summarized and each one of them posed for a picture with Mike Krebs, the Chair of the YRC.
Each award recipient also received a T-shirt and an invitation to participate in a Day of Caring – the Rudolph Red Tag Sale in support of Big Brothers Big Sisters. You can see from the picture below that the T-shirts were a popular item and a great way for the recipients to connect with each other. (Hopefully we’ll see a lot of those shirts again at the Rudolph Red Tag Sale!)
It was an event full of committed youth, proud parents and endless possibility. Congratulations to you all!
Thank you to:
- The Norwood hotel for the lovely room, wonderful service and delicious goodies.
- Great-West Life for their generous support.
- Cie Kay for her beautiful music.
- All the volunteers for their dedication to the community and helping others. (Click here for the complete list of this year’s SCSA recipients.)
