Dr. Nick Bontis, a business professor from McMaster University, was one of the keynote speakers at United Way’s national conference last weekend. He’s done extensive research on intellectual capital, knowledge management and organizational learning and his doctoral dissertation is the number one selling thesis in Canada.
So how’s this relevant to you? If you’re a high school student thinking about a career path, or a university student thinking about an area to specialize in, knowledge management might be an option.
Intellectual capital? That’s what’s between your ears. You have it now, you’ll get more of it later, and you’ll bring it with you wherever you go. How you use it and how you share it is very important.
In the video clip below, Dr. Bontis talks about information and how technology has changed the world we’re working in. There’s more on his website and you can see a great lecture (the same speech he gave at the conference, basically) at TVO.org (TVO.org is Ontario’s public educational media organization – Bontis was a finalist in TVO’s Best Lecturer competition for 2008).
