There is no shortage of young leaders in Winnipeg, and United Way’s Youth Relations Council is happy to announce that after going through a stack of fantastic applications for this year’s Youth Leaders in Action scholarships, they’ve selected four recipients. The YLIA scholarship was created by the Council in 2006 as a way to recognize youth who’ve made a difference.

This year’s recipients have demonstrated their leadership and commitment to the city by volunteering, participating and working at various United Way partner agencies.

Amber Sinclair has been an active participant in “Restoring the Sacred”, a youth program run by Ka Ni Kanichihk, and now she volunteers as a peer mentor.

Kim Chambers has been involved with the YMCA-YWCA (South Branch) for about 4 years and has started to work there recently – she’s at the Y about 4 times a week!

Benisia Whenzle volunteers at the YMCA-YWCA (Elmwood-Kildonan Branch) and is a member of the International Committee there.

Rebecca Hutchings is a literacy tutor for the John Howard Society, where she works one-on-one and in a group setting with inmates at the Winnipeg Remand Centre.
