Two students from Fort Richmond Collegiate created a greeting card business and donated their profits to an organization that supports newcomers to Canada.
Fort Richmond Collegiate (Dalhousie Breakfast Project)

Members of FRC’s Charity Club volunteered at Dalhousie School ‘s breakfast program and used their Youth Connections grant to purchase a dishwasher for the program.
Dakota Collegiate (Operation Rudolph)

Dakota’s Black & Gold Society planned and hosted a Christmas party for children from low-income areas surrounding their high school. This was their third year of Youth Connections funding.
Kelvin High School (Kelvin Bridges Initiative)

Over 150 students participated in planning and hosting their fourth annual Christmas party, this time inviting all of the students from Pinkham School , which is located in Winnipeg’s North End.
Shaftesbury High School (Teens Against Drunk Driving)

Members of Shaftesbury’s TADD (Teens Against Drunk Driving) group organized an assembly to teach their peers about making responsible choices.
Collège Jeanne-Sauvé (Face á Face: Toi Mème)

A student committee organized a youth conference for about 600 French-speaking students in their school division. The conference focused on issues like health, self-image, music, theatre, and relationships.
St. John’s High School (Plant Project)
Winter 2003/2004 (Amount granted: $1000)
Continuing a project that they started last year, special needs students at St. John’s learned to grow and care for bedding plants in their classroom, and then sold them at a reduced cost so that low-income families in their north end neighborhood would be able to afford them. The students also planted flowers around their school to make the grounds feel more inviting.
Vincent Massey Collegiate (Peer Facilitation Group)
January 2003 – May 2004 (Amount granted: $470)
Members of Vincent Massey’s Peer Facilitation Group planned activities and events to bring International and ESL students together in an effort to connect them with other people in the student body.
St. James Collegiate (Brooklands Literacy Project)
February 2004 (Amount granted: $828.57)
St. James students who live in the Brooklands area of Winnipeg went to an elementary school in their neighborhood to cook breakfast and read to the children. They left each child with a book of their own.
St. James Collegiate (Project Wisdom for Youth)

Members of St. James Collegiate’s Peer Support Team organized a youth symposium and implemented a program that incorporates a series of positive messages into daily announcements. Their goal for the project was to facilitate learning opportunities for the youth in their school and to encourage them to make positive choices and create a positive environment for everyone.
Sturgeon Creek Collegiate (Book Bags)
March – June 2004 (Amount granted: $308.33)
Students chose a favorite children’s story and then created magnetized props and audiotapes to go along with the stories. They put the books, the props, and the tapes into cloth bags and delivered them to three elementary schools for their students to use.
Kelvin High School ( Camp Ooga Booga)

A core group of students, assisted by another 15 – 20 of their peers, offered a free day camp for low-income families during spring break. Approximately 45 children attended the camp.
General Byng School (Festival of Nations)

Students organized and participated in a Festival of Nations to celebrate the many cultural groups in their school. The event featured entertainment, speakers, food and decorations, and a special ” Sea of Flags ” was created by students and placed in the front hallway of the school.
Niji Mahkwa School (Anti-Bullying Program)
Winter/Spring 2004 (Amount granted: $1000)
This project was a continuation of a program started last year by grade nine students. They wanted to do things in their school that encourage a positive and safe environment for students, staff and community members. To celebrate their accomplishments, the entire student body was rewarded with a BBQ and activity day near the end of the school year.
P.A.S.S. Youth Committee (Aboriginal Youth Conference)
June 2004 (Amount granted: $1000)
Youth members of the Selkirk, MB P.A.S.S. (Promoting Aboriginal Student Success) Committee organized and hosted their third conference designed to encourage aboriginal youth to stay in school. Conference attendance continues to grow every year and the P.A.S.S. model has attracted interest from educators province-wide.
Victor Mager Boys & Girls Club (Multicultural Celebration)
March 2004 (Amount granted: $1000)
Regular members of the Victor Mager Winnipeg Boys & Girls Club invited community members to an event in celebration of International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. The event included multicultural performances and a buffet featuring ethnic dishes representative of the St. Vital community.
Collège Churchill ( Mini Commonwealth Games)

Senior High students at this French immersion school planned and hosted younger students from other French immersion schools for a sports day. Their goal was to provide an opportunity otherwise not available to the younger students, while encouraging them to interact with peers using the French language outside of their regular classrooms.
Miles Macdonell Collegiate (For a Better Tomorrow)
May/June 2004 (Amount granted: $1000)
Students in Miles Mac’s Career Quest program provided free labor to repair two homes owned by low-income residents in their community. Youth Connections funding helped them to pay for supplies such as paint, lumber and landscaping material.
Southeast Education Centre (Cultural Awareness Day)
June 2004 (Amount granted: $1000)
Senior High students at this aboriginal high school hosted several hundred students and community members for a day of performances and activities designed to connect the school to their larger community and help students to celebrate aboriginal culture.
Churchill High School (Women’s Wellness Week)
Fall 2004 (Amount granted: $1000)
A small group of female students received funding that they will use to put on a series of workshops and activities on nutrition, stress management, depression, anxiety, personal safety and body image.
