What kinds of projects can receive a Youth Connections grant?
We look for youth-initiated, youth-driven community action projects with a clear local benefit. Projects must also help to build and strengthen skills and abilities in the youth who are involved in planning them. Be sure read our guidelines carefully before you apply for a grant.
Our group is from outside the city of Winnipeg . Can we still apply for funding?
At this time, we are reviewing applications from the immeidate surrounding areas of the city on a case-by-case basis.
How much money does Youth Connections grant each year?
We have the resources to fund about 20 eligible projects each year.

What happens after we send in our application and when will we know if our application has been approved?
Once we receive your application, a Youth Connections volunteer will contact the project leader to talk about your project idea and discuss any questions or concerns. This year, all project teams will meet at United Way on the appropriate review date to present their ideas. This will provide all participants with the opportunity to learn from each other and develop a deeper understanding/scope of youth initiatives throughout the community. This will also allow more United Way Youth volunteers to be involved in the discussion of each project and the ability to offer more insight and guidance to everyone involved.
Youth Connections volunteers will discuss each application immediately after each review date and will contact the project leader with their funding decision.
Would Youth Connections help project teams with anything besides funding?
Yes, as experienced volunteers themselves, they would be happy to help you fill out the application, make suggestions on ways to improve your project and assist you in promoting yourselves. Feel free to contact us with any questions.
Where does Youth Connections get the money that is granted every year?
The Youth Connections program is made possible by an endowment of $500, 000 that was given to United Way by Moffat Communications Inc. in 1999. The program was originally called Videon United Way Youth Connections – when Videon Cablesystems was sold to Shaw Communications Inc. in 2001, Shaw also assumed the sponsorship of the program.
