Once you have an idea for a project, it’s easy to apply for a Youth Connections grant. (There are no deadlines – you can apply year-round).
NOTE: The application form is no longer available for download. Please call 477-5360 and we’ll send you a copy of the most current application package.
Here are a few things you should keep in mind:
- Before you fill out the funding application, read through our funding guidelines so you know what criteria the Youth Connections Council uses they review grant requests. The guidelines may change from year to year, so please make sure you’ve read the most current version.
- Try to submit your application at least six weeks before you need a decision.
- The review process will include a face-to-face interview with your project team. In most cases, the interviews will be youth-to-youth only. The interview will help us get to know each other a little bit, and it will help us to gather the information we need to make a decision.
- After your interview, the Youth Connections review team will report to the entire Youth Connections Council and make a recommendation based on how well your idea meets their funding guidelines.
- The Youth Connections Council will discuss your application and vote on it (this usually happens during our monthly meetings). If the majority of the Youth Connections Council is in favour of funding your project, your grant request will be approved.
- One of the Youth Connections Council members who reviewed your application will phone your project team leader and let you know what the Council’s decision is.
If your grant request is approved, here’s what to expect:
- Our staff support person will be in touch with you and your adult contact to let you know when your cheque is coming. The cheque will have to be made out to the charitable organization you’re connected with, like your school or community agency.
- Along with the grant cheque, you’ll get a blank project report form that you are required to fill out and return to us when your project is finished.
- We would appreciate it if you would refer to Shaw United Way Youth Connections as one of your project sponsors in any promotional material (posters, brochures, etc.) that you create. This will help us get the word out about Youth Connections to other groups of youth.
- One of the review team members may be in touch with you before your project takes place just to see how your plans are coming along and to offer their support.
Whenever possible, someone from Youth Connections will come out to your project or event. This is the most fun part of our job! - You’ll be invited to a year-end event where we’ll celebrate the impact we’ve all had on the community. Usually, this event happens in the spring, before high school exams. (If your project happens during the summer, we’ll be sure to include you in the celebration for the next year!)

Hi Sarah – we’ll email you a copy of the application asap. Most of the people who apply for Youth Connections grants are in high school, and some are in university. The Youth Connections Council is made up of young people ages 16-24, but I’ll have to check some of our old documents to see if they have set an age limit for grant applicants.

Jawad Foundation Canada is a Canadian based non-governmental, non-political, non-profit and non-partisan organization established in Canada and is eager to participate in the post-war national rehabilitation and reintegration campaign. The aim of the organization is to develop Canada, Afghanistan and other countries in order to serve and help the needy and poor people across the world.
Jawad Foundation Canada is a new non-profit organization established by members who have a broad range of skills and experience and are committed to run this organization and help the needy people here in Canada and outside of Canada. The founder and executive board and members are motivated and decided to establish and run this charity organization (JFC) based on their valuable experiences in charity, humanitarian, human rights, social and economics etc.
Note: JFC founder and its executive board’s background are written about and reported on in a different file.
While there are already close to 150, 000 registered charity and not-for-profit organizations in Canada, there are still many needy people who are seeking help and support in Canada and overseas countries.
Therefore, we believe that there should be a non-profit organization that provides hope peace and help, together with other non-profit organizations in Canada, other countries and particularly in Afghanistan. It is clear that the more organizations or resources for help that we have will be more effective than a limited number of charity organizations in this needy world experiencing global economic crises and conflicts.
The current world economic crises are negatively affecting Countries around the world. As human being we strongly believe that people who are seeking help should be helped and supported because we still see hunger, illiteracy, violence, less employment opportunities, narcotics, diseases (HIV, AIDS) etc in this modernized world. Forgetting these needy people and entire countries which are in need will negatively affect the other countries in the long term. Therefore we should increase our humanitarian and a philanthropist helps to work towards as. As part solution. As human beings we believe that everyone should be helpful and responsible for the lives of others, not only relying on the government or other formal resources or organizations. According to our wide-spread studies we are committed and devoted to establish a non-profit organization under the name of Jawad Foundation Canada.
